2022 Project Summary

A grant of £900 to support the repair of water boreholes as part of the Maji Ghawemi project in Traditional Authority Area Yohane Jere, Mzimba District.

Twambilire Simkonda, Project Manager with Think Souls Organisation explained that Maji Ghawemi means ‘clean water’ in the local dialect. The project was chosen by the community because many were unable to access safe drinking water, instead collecting water from rivers, streams and stagnant pools placing them at risk of disease. The Think Souls team worked with the community to identify the specific boreholes to be repairs and coordinated the collective response providing bricks, sand, water, food and labour. In total 9 boreholes were repaired giving access to clean water to approximately 3000 people.
