2025 project
A grant of £825 to support the installation of replacement water pipes, as part of the Kudyere Project, to deliver mountain spring water to communities in Mulanje, following damage as a result of Cyclone Freddy.
Mike Ansell from SeedSowers Trust, reported in the area where the water pipes were damaged are many small holder tea plantations owned and cultivated by the local villagers, without water the women and girls have to walk many miles to fetch water from far away boreholes. This means a loss of time when they should be tending their crops and the girls especially lose out in their schooling. The new pipes will bring clean spring water to the villages instead.
This project is underway – check back soon for updates.
2022 Flood relief
Mike Ansell from SeedSowers Trust, reported that Cyclone Ana in January 2022 caused much damage to crops and housing, especially in the poorer rural villages of Chilaweni, Blantyre District where SeedSowers runs a borehole programme. Work on the drilling programme had to be put on hold due the extensive flooding which damaged homes and wiped out crops. As part of the Flood Relief efforts, FOMA provided funding of £1500 to help reinstate safe water boreholes.
